Why Larimer County DUI Cases Are Different
Larimer County has two courthouses depending on where the arrest occurred:
| Court | Location | Handles |
|---|---|---|
| Larimer County Justice Center | 201 LaPorte Ave, Fort Collins | Most DUI cases |
| Loveland County Court | 810 E 10th St, Loveland | DUIs in south county / Loveland area |
You don’t pick the courthouse — geography does.

🚨 DUI in Fort Collins After Old Town Drinking, CSU Area, or Horsetooth Reservoir?
These are very common case patterns here:
- Bar hopping around Old Town Square
- Leaving the CSU campus district
- Summer drinking at Horsetooth Reservoir followed by a stop on the way back
- Winter weekend drinking → I-25 / Loveland → pulled over near Boyd Lake or US-34
Larimer County PD and CSP saturate these areas on weekends and event nights.

Have questions about your Fort Collins DUI? Here are answers to the questions I’m asked most often by clients facing charges in Larimer County.
Q: Where will my DUI case be heard?
A: Either at the Fort Collins Justice Center or the Loveland County Court — depending on where the stop occurred.
Q: How long do I have to request my DMV hearing?
A: 7 days from the date of arrest. If you miss it, revocation is automatic.

Q: Can a DUI be reduced or dismissed?
A: Yes — if we prove issues with the stop, detention, field tests, or chemical testing.
Q: Will I have to appear in person for court in Larimer County?
A: Not always. For certain early court appearances, I can often appear for you — depending on the judge, the stage of the case, and whether there are prior DUIs or aggravating factors. Larimer County eventually requires you to appear in person for any meaningful or consequential proceeding (such as entering a plea, setting conditions, or sentencing). I’ll handle the scheduling and request appearance waivers when allowed.
Q: The officer took my license — how am I supposed to get to work?
A: When we request your Express Consent DMV hearing, we also request a temporary driving permit.
That permit allows you to legally drive until the originally scheduled DMV hearing date OR for up to 60 days, whichever comes first.
The key is acting fast — you only have 7 days from the date of your arrest to request the hearing, or DMV will automatically revoke your driving privilege.
